5 tips for managers: How to handle layoffs of employees

Layoffs are not pleasant for anybody. The ability to fire employees is, however, one of the basic responsibilities of managers. They often make mistakes in seeking to dehumanize layoffs as much as possible. If your managers need help with how to say goodbye to some members of their teams, give them the following list of best practices.

1. Maintain eye contact

Always look in the eyes of dismissed employees. Keep up the human approach, they will remember it.

2. Do not hide the reasons for dismissal

Clearly and briefly explain your reasons. It can help them to successful career in another field.

3. Do not be too friendly

Your friendly attitude toward employees being dismissed should not hide the reasons why they must leave. Thanks for their cooperation are in place but only to a certain level.

4. Involve HR

Invite a human resources specialist who will introduce specified information regarding severance pay, legal insurance, etc.

5. Allow dismissed employees to respond
