Facebook has launched a new application called Social Jobs Partnership which offers job vacancies. The application was developed in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor and several leading international job portals such as Monster.com, BranchOut or Jobvite. At the beginning, more than 1.7 million jobs mostly in the USA have been offered. Users can seach jobs simply using keywords, job categories and locations.

The project called Social Jobs hub which has brought educational content and practical tools for users currently seeking employment was launched on Facebook already a year before. Publication of vacancies was therefore  a next logical step, Mashable.com reported.

The cooperation with the job portals and the base of more than a billion of users should help Facebook to reach success in the field of job advertising. That is how Facebook enters into direct competition with the professional social network LinkedIn. It is, however, a big question whether LinkedIn can be overcome in this field. LinkedIn has already been building relationships with recruiters and developing tools for finding talent for years. Facebook only aggregates job offers so far.

The press release published by Facebook when launching the Social Jobs Partnership application published also results of a survey that should demonstrate the important role of Facebook in the job advertising market. The survey of the National Association of Colleges and Employers - NACE showed that:

  • More than 50% of U.S. employers used Facebook to find employees. 54% of them expected Facebook to play an increasingly important role in the process of acquiring talent.

  • More than 90% companies decreased the volume of job advertisements in printed media thanks to Facebook.

  • More than half of the employers using Facebook in search of employees emphasized the importance of networking and getting references via social networks.

According to the survey, recruiters use Facebook primarily for three reasons:

  • It offers recruiters the ability to reach more potential job seekers than any other service.

  • It facilitates networking with recruiters for potential job seekers.

  • It is cheaper and more efficient than traditional sources for finding employees.
