Prerequisites of a successful performance coaching program

Performance-oriented coaching helps employees to change their behavior and attitude to work by teaching them to come up with their own ideas and solutions to complex situations. If you plan to implement a performance coaching program in your organization, make sure to meet the following four criteria.

1. The program will be tailored to your needs

Every company has its own problems it wants to solve using coaching. Any employee who is to be coached has a different level of experience and skills affecting his performance. Your coaching program should therefore be based on the strengths and weaknesses of both individuals and teams.

2. The program will increase the level your employees' skills

Your program should focus not only on acquiring new knowledge but especially new skills. Be sure that the participants clearly know how to use the new knowledge in practice.

3. The program will expect employee's resistance to change

Most people do not like to leave their comfort zones. Your task is, therefore, to correctly communicate the importance of the program. You should also consider whether to really exclude certain layers of managers who say they do not need it from the program.

4. The program will give participants a clear guidance on how to improve their performance

Participants should leave the program not only with an abstract knowledge but with a clear idea of what is expected from them now.
