Tips for coaching beginners: How to get rid of uncertainty

Today we have a question for coaches: How much do you believe in yourself? If you feel a little uncertain before meeting your coachees, the problem may only be in your head. Try doing what you advise your clients to do - look at your problems from a different perspective.

If you want to change something, you must first know what you want to change. Then focus on your feelings and thoughts before your coaching sessions. In her articles on the International Coach Federation blog, coach Merci Miglino recommends changing your thoughts in the following manner.

What I think

New way of thinking

I must prove that I'm trustworthy.

The client  must live his life. I'll try to help him the best I can.

I have to keep this client.

Everyone decides what he or she will do and is responsible for their own actions.

The client relies on me, what if I disappoint him?

I can't help in each and every situation.

I still don't know enough, maybe someday I'll be a good coach.

I trust myself as a person and as a coach. I'll do the best I can.

I hope that my coaching will impress the client.

I believe that everything I do is in the best interest of the client.

Try changing your perspective and focus on what is happening rather than on what might happen. Creating a perfect setting for your sessions will help you a lot. You should be disturbed as little as possible so you can focus. You should also sit comfortably. Even such seemingly small things will boost your confidence.
