How to choose the right supplier of HR systems

Buying technologies for the management of human resources is becoming increasingly complex. In addition to the big players, smaller but more sophisticated and more flexible software suppliers are appearing in the market. Of course, the technology itself is also developing faster and faster. The complexity of the requirements for HR information systems in relation to talent management, is increasing as well. As is the growing trend of using the so-called big data.

How should HR professionals choose the right technology and suppliers for their systems? This question has recently been asked on ere.net website which offered the following recommendations.

1. Clarify your needs

Before meeting with any supplier, you should know what you need. Answer these questions: What are the current and future challenges you want the selected technology to help you solve? What results do you expect and what risks may arise?

2. Focus on processes

No technology should drive your processes. On the contrary, processes should drive technology. Along with the needs analysis, therefore, perform an analysis of the specific processes involved in the chosen solution.

3. Beware of salespeople

Keep in mind that the salespeople are selling their solutions and will know the technology but will not necessarily have experience with how HR people work. Don't get seduced by a great marketing presentation.

4. Work with your IT

Your new HR systems will probably have to be integrated into your existing systems. You will, therefore, need the assistance of your IT colleagues to help you compare the different offers.

5. Take your time

Look for solutions that will fit your long-term and well considered strategy, not just for the latest trends.

6. Try a view from the outside

Get advice from trusted people outside your company, who have no experience with "how things have always been done in the company".

7. Constantly measure

Clearly determine the measures to track your success not only during the project and after its launch, but also for the actual selection of suppliers.
