Study: Both Europeans and Czechs are stressed by job insecurity

Job insecurity or reorganization is the most common cause of work-related stress in Europe. 51% of Europeans and 55% of Czechs consider work-related stress as common. That is according to the 3rd edition of the pan-European opinion poll conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) which also focused on active ageing. The survey was conducted from 23rd November 2012 to 5th February 2013 across 31 countries including the Czech Republic.

Work-related stress in Europe

  • 51% of Europeans believe that work-related stress is common in their workplace, 16% say work-related stress is "very common"

  • 54% of women and 49% of men consider work-related stress in their workplace as common

  • 54% of Europeans believe that the issue of work-related stress is well managed in their workplace, 41% think that it is managed poorly

  • 72% of Europeans who report that work-related stress is rare in their workplace also report that the problem is properly managed

  • 58% of workers who report work-related stress is common in their workplace also report that the issue of work-related stress is poorly managed

  • 72% of Europeans consider job uncertainty or reorganization as the most common cause of work-related stress, followed by workload (66%)

  • 59% of workers perceive unacceptable behavior such as bullying or harassment as a cause of work-related stress, 57% report a lack of support from colleagues or superiors, 52% report a lack of clear definition of roles and responsibilities and 46% reported a limited ability to control the system of work

Work-related stress in the Czech Republic

  • 55% of workers in the Czech Republic believe that stress at work is common in their workplace, 18% say it is "very common"

  • 60% of non-manual workers and 50% of manual workers consider work-related stress as common at their workplace

  • 51% believe that the issue of work-related stress is well managed, 45% think that it is managed poorly

  • 68% of part-time workers, 46% of full-time workers and 66% of self-employed persons think that stress is well managed in their workplace

  • 61% of Czechs consider job uncertainty or reorganization as the most common cause of work-related stress, followed by workload (32%)
