Studies still show that C-level executives perceive HR as the least strategic function in the organizational structure of their companies. The strategic function of HR has, however, never been more important than today. Business strategies should be backed by strategies of managing people who, in practice, implement the companies' business goals.

The demographic structure of employees is significantly changing. People are living and working longer, there is an increasing demand for flexible jobs and other flexible arrangements. Employers who want to attract the best talent need strategic HR. So how can HR build the position of a strategic partner and gain the respect of top management? This question was recently dealt with at TLNT.com. The website recommends the following steps for HR to align with the wider business interests of companies and gain a stronger position in top management.

1. Build a network of relationships across the company

HR managers should strive to build relationships with employees across the company, not just transactionally process their requests. This will help them better understand the functioning of the company, execution of its business goals, and individual needs of different parts of the organization.

2. Learn to plan and budget better

You can no longer afford approximate budgeting and general plans. Top management expects you to provide a clear rationale for planning and budgeting activities related to the context of specific business objectives. You should learn to anticipate future needs and also improve your presentation skills to make them more convincing.

3. Improve the way your work with data

Find inspiration in marketing which uses sophisticated methods to predict customer behavior and create strategies accordingly.
