Still little room for women on boards in Germany

Despite the fact that numbers show better results of companies led by representatives of both sexes, German companies are still lagging behind in the representation of women in top positions. That is the main finding of a recent survey by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). The last year's debate on the need to introduce quotas for women in management if companies do not manage to increase it voluntarily, therefore, did not change the climate on the top level of the German corporate sphere.

The DIW study shows that the number of women in the top management of top 30 German companies increased from 1.5% to only 3.7% during the last year. In the top 200 German companies, the number of companies led only by men increased from 8.8% to 23.8%. Women represented 11% of people on boards of the top 200 German companies. Two thirds of them, however, worked on non-managerial positions.
