Study: HR technology investments raising again

Companies worldwide are planning to increase their investment in HR technologies, primarily in talent management solutions, HR portals, SaaS systems, and mobile applications. This, according to the results from this year's 17th edition of the yearly study by Towers Watson titled HR Service Delivery and Technology Survey 2014. Among the 1,048 companies from 45 countries, two-thirds of the respondents represented large companies with more than 5 thousand employees. The study also showed that about a third of companies were planning to change their overall HR structure in order to increase both its efficiency and quality.

33% of the companies plan to increase investment in HR technology from the previous year, 23% of them by as much as 20%. Only 15% of the companies surveyed plan to reduce investments. Companies are becoming more interested in smart investing in technologies that are able to grow and develop with them. They are starting to divide the investments primarily between basic HR systems, such as payroll, and new generation technologies, including the collection and analysis of HR data or integrated talent management systems.

More mobile technologies and changes in HR processes

46% of respondents, which is 36% more than the last year, are using mobile technologies to carry out HR transactions. There is, however, still much room for growth, because only 10% of companies are using mobile applications for most of their HR transactions. 60% of companies use HR portals and a further 20% are developing their HR portals.

Similar to last year, most companies cite streamlining of their business processes as the most important HR initiative. 55% of companies achieved streamlining their HR processes in the last 18 months and 49% improved the people management capability of their line managers. 36% of companies implemented self-service tools for managers and employees, and 31% of companies re-focused on the role of their HR business partners.
